Dear Singers,
I hope you've had a great summer and are ready to sing again. I wanted to let you know some upcoming dates and details so
that you can get them on your calendars.
Our first rehearsal will be Wednesday, August 8, at 6:30 pm. I’m still working on the venue. At
this point, plan on meeting at First Methodist in our usual spot. If there is a
change, I will let you know. The reason that it’s not definite, is that NVC has
approached me about Bel Canto partnering
with the college as part of the performing arts program. In the event it was
agreed upon, we would rehearse and perform there. Members would enroll in a
class and I would be completely free to structure it as we have in the past.
You would pay a tuition fee, a materials fee for music (as well as would need
to get a parking pass or pay weekly). And I would get paid for teaching the
class. What I don’t want to do is lose our autonomy. The college would do the
lion’s share of marketing, as well. I would still want to do smaller, more
intimate settings (like Mont La Salle or St. Mary’s) however, in our last board
meeting, Hunter suggested the possibility of performing in the lobby atrium. It’s
lovely and supposedly has great acoustics. Just some things that need to be
worked out. I will keep you posted. If things don’t work out at the college,
please plan on a music fee of $45 and a members’ fee of $100 per semester to
cover costs, salary, guest musicians, etc. If the member fee is a hardship, please
talk to Lisa van Stuijenberg about possible scholarships. We will need the music fee at the first rehearsal.
We will be performing in two concerts this Fall/Winter. The
first will be a combined concert at the college with Bel Canto singing with the Chorale on Rutter’s Gloria as well as independently on two songs. We will also have our
own holiday concert in which we will sing primarily the music we will be
recording for a CD as well as reprising the two pieces from the college concert.
See the attached schedule of dates and descriptions of the music. Joanna
Mittman our new board Secretary (and so much more) will be sending out a questionnaire
shortly to determine which music members might need copies of the previous years’
repertoire. Please respond ASAP so we can have them by the first rehearsal.
I think it’s going to be an exciting season and I can’t wait
to see you all and begin singing together.
Ted
